Job Title:Maintenance Technician – Level II

Reports to:Plant Manager

Hourly Non Exempt

Primary Objective:To maintain manufacturing equipment and facility in such a manner as to maximize uptime at the least cost to production-related goals.


  • Determines, by scheduled inspections, the maintenance work necessary to prevent breakdowns and major overhauls.

  • Designs, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and overhauls production equipment and support systems.

  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operations; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.

  • Maintains fire protection and safety equipment.

  • Uses work orders to determine job priorities, and assists Team Leaders and the Maintenance Manager in scheduling work to be done.

  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.

  • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.

  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

  • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.

  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed equipment, parts and supplies and notifying Maintenance Manager.

  • Knowledge and troubleshooting malfunctions of electrical, hydraulics, and pneumatics systems.

  • Trains machine operators in preventive maintenance procedures and minor repair techniques.

  • Provides technical assistance to all production personnel, including supervisors and the Production Manager on machine setups, tooling, grinding operations, ways to utilize equipment, and other areas as needed.

  • Makes purchasing decisions and maintains parts inventory.

  • Follows and monitors safety rules and procedures. This may include representing the department at Safety Committee meetings.

  • Aids in the training and development of team members

  • Assists in plant layout and design.

  • Works on projects as directed by the Maintenance Manager or Team Leaders.

  • Assists in maintaining and/or operating the boiler system.


  • Two-year technical college degree or equivalent in related field plus 2 years’ experience

  • Lift items over 100lbs, climb ladders, and work in tight quarters.

  • Work overtime when necessary.

  • Strong mechanical ability

  • Good communications skills

  • Welding and shop experience

  • Hydraulics and pneumatics experience

  • Tooling and woodworking equipment experience

  • Electrical systems knowledge

  • Computer literacy

  • Knowledge of safety and environmental practices, regulations, and procedures

  • May include boiler operator’s chief “C” license
