Quality Assurance Analyst
The Quality Assurance Analyst manages QA projects, writes and executes both manual and automated test cases, and evaluates the quality and stability of Higher Education products.
He or she will sit between the Production, Product Management, and Engineering teams to define appropriate scope of QA, identify and define software bugs, and communicate issues clearly and effectively.
It is the responsibility of the Courseware QA team to ensure that the production team is aware of all known issues found during testing to make informed choices and prioritize work across all departments.
Perform manual testing on a variety of operating systems and browsers, including mobile applications, for multiple software products
Write and maintain a suite of test cases based on business requirements and understanding of customer needs and expectations
Work with QA and Production teams to maintain comprehensive test plans and configuration matrices
Monitor and track defects using JIRA
Work with Product and Engineering teams to understand release and testing cycles, known defect tracking, and issue escalations that arise from internal or external stakeholders
Assist in tracking bugs and defects and all fixes or mitigations to inform other QA testing teams
Work with both internal and vendor QA teams to assign projects, review logged tickets, and escalate / triage bugs as needed
Ideally, be able to write and review automation scripts using testing tools like Selenium, in languages such as Java or Python
Understands the Business of the Client:
- Understands how Production & Digital Studio supports the Company's larger goals, and how the Courseware QA team contributes to meeting those goals. Delivers QA according to plans, budget, and looks for eventual areas of financial optimization. Understands how QA is related across all product categories. Has a good knowledge of the specificities of one's dedicated segment.
- Works with other parts of the organization (e.g. engineering and product management teams) as necessary to ensure support in attaining output, quality and productivity. Maintains communication with sister products in the portfolio. Manages vendors for schedule, budget, quality compliance and provide feedback on performance.
Permanently seeks for better understanding of product specifications in the light of learner's needs and expectations. Accountable for defining and ensuring adherence to media standards for one's category and makes necessary delivery trades-offs with the learner's use in mind.
Resolves bottlenecks and stability issues by maintaining a big picture understanding of interconnecting components for a particular courseware product. Responsible for content and final integration QA for the category.
- Responsible for applying content structure, enrichment and other compliance standards, and for identifying potential enhancements in this field. Flags areas of improvement in terms of QA, production or relationships with vendors in order to increase efficiency or reduce costs.
Minimum Education Requirement
- Bachelor’s degree or appropriate combination of education and experience.
2-3 years of related QA experience preferred
Knowledge of bug tracking software such as JIRA, Mantis, or Bugzilla preferred
Knowledge of automation tools and/or languages preferred, but not required
Ability to handle high pressure situations and prioritize multiple projects required
Demonstrated ability to think critically, work independently, and ask questions, even when requirements are vague or undefined
Ability to focus on and manage deadlines and deliverables required
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to work with varied staff members and personalities
Ability to work with remote teams in multiple offices and time zones
Demonstrated skill or interest in data analysis and data-driven decision making a plus
