Part Time/Adjunct Fire Science Instructor
Savannah Technical College seeks part-timeAdjunct Instructors for the Fire Science Program. Adjunct facultypositions are temporary, part-time positions of employment appointed on a peracademic term basis. Day and evening hours available. Dutiesinclude a flexible schedule of lecture and/or laboratory, and may involve splitteaching shifts or routine travel between campus locations.
Thisindividual is responsible for the following duties (the list is not intended tobe exhaustive):
Preparinglesson plans for classroom instruction, developing program syllabi, goals andobjectives.
Evaluatingstudents’ progress in attaining goals and objectives.
Maintainingprogram certification requirements as appropriate.
Preparingand maintaining all required documentation and administrative reports.
Maintainingknowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staffdevelopment training, workshops, seminars and conferences.
Ensuressafety and security requirements are met in the training area.
Meetswith students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students’instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of students.
Workdiligently to maximize student placements in this field or related fields.
Mustbe willing to work split teaching shifts that might require split teaching daysbetween campus locations.
Firefightingexperience of at least 3-5 years in the field.
Teachingexperience, demonstrated skills in training and/or personnel development.
Certificationas a Fire Instructor/Inspector.
Five(5) or more years of fire service employment.
Excellent written and verbalcommunication skills.
Proficient in the use of MS Office,Word and Excel; Banner proficiency preferred.
Experience utilizing a LearningManagement System (LMS); experience with the Blackboard LMS platform preferred.
Teachingresponsibilities are typically performed in a classroom/lab environment withthe employee intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, pushing, andpulling for three (3) – four (4) continuous hours at a time. The employee frequently lifts/carries objectsthat weigh 50lbs. or less. The work isperformed in campus buildings and outdoors where the employee is occasionallyexposed to cold or inclement weather. The exposure to dirt, dust, grease,machinery with moving parts, chemicals, and fumes is possible in the laboratoryenvironment. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
Salaryis commensurate with education and work experience.
