Job Description

Sr. Software Engineer - Weather and Environmental Sensor Ingest Platform (GoLang) The Weather Underground weather sensor (PWS) network is undergoing a radical transition, and we need you to help keep the momentum going. The ingestion platform has been re-engineered to be clean, fast and highly stable. These improvements to the data pipeline ensure that millions of weather sensors can continue to play a core role in IBM’s strategy to enter or solidify their approach to many valuable markets. We seek a highly motivated, experienced engineer who will take what we have already built and iterate on our success. You’ll add valuable features and help to improve performance, while ensuring security and privacy. Our focus for the next several quarters will be on improving Quality Control of crowdsourced data, adding support for new sensor types, and supporting partners who want to build their own private sensor networks. You will: Develop, implement, and enforce security and privacy controls for compliance with GDPR, ITSS ISO etc... Conceive, develop and implement new features, methods of quality control, and performance improvements Help improve our coding standards by writing your own quality code, and leading code reviews for your peers Assist with migration from AWS to IBM cloud Work with a dedicated team that’s invested in continually improving the product they built Required Skills Experience developing, understanding, and implementing enterprise security procedures Demonstrated and sustained success as a software engineer contributing to all parts of the software development life cycle Deep understanding of GoLang: Its challenges, standards and advantages Understanding of relational and NoSql data stores like MySQL, Cassandra and Redis Required Experience 10+ years software development experience 1+ year GoLang experience Additional Beneficial Experience.

Qualifications and Experience

• Extensive experience with large-scale, high-use applications

• Experience with streaming data platforms

• Experience with multiple cloud providers

• Knowledge of multiple software design patterns, OOP, functional etc...

• Experience on the Linux environment and command line

• Experience performance testing and tuning services and applications

• Experience with Go, C/C++ a plus

• Experience with AWS, JSON, REST, Docker

Preferred Tech and Prof Experience

We also use a variety of other technologies including, but not limited to Cassandra, MongoDB, Jaba, Kafka, C/C++ and many, many tools and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all, but at least knowing what they are and have a desire to learn is a good start. The role will require understanding data modeling in various databases, and willingness to dive into best practices for each. As an ideal candidate, you will be able to apply yourself to solving problems and know what makes for good, maintainable and scalable code.

Education and Training

· BS Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent

· 4-6 years of relevant experience with progressive responsibilities in developing backend services
