Job Description

Assists in the implementation of the City of Charleston’s safety program and is responsible for day-to-day employee safety and health. Builds workplace relationships to promote a positive safety culture. Implements current and new safety and health programs to include employee, supervisor, and management participation. Conducts Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) to identify and control new or existing hazards, conditions, and operations. Informs all affected employees of work-related hazards and controls. Provides safety and health training to employees. Enforces safe work practices. Investigates injuries and collisions to make recommendations of corrective actions. Maintains required reports and records. Perform other duties as assigned. Requires: Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in Risk Management, Safety, Environmental Safety or a related field; and one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education. Experience conducting Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), managing a Hearing Conservation Program and/or Hazard Communication Program is preferred. Valid state issued driver’s license. Certifications as an OSHA Trainer; SC Flagger/Work Zone Instructor is preferred. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint or similar software.
