JOB SUMMARY:

The Regional Education Specialist (RES) will be located at our Danville, PA campus and will report directly to the Senior Education Specialist and will provide student support, curriculum oversite, and coordination of the clinical education and training of M3 and M4 students of the MD program in the regional campus to which they are assigned. These responsibilities help ensure that the learning objectives of the clinical curriculum are delivered appropriately and that students are achieving competence in the overall educational program objectives and specific sub-competencies of the MD program. In this position, the RES will meet with students to address various academic, learning environment, career and residency planning issues. The RES works with volunteer and paid clinical faculty as well as the Regional Leadership Team to ensure the proper implementation of the clinical curriculum. The RES will serve as a liaison to the main offices of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. * * To work independently to serve as the primary point of contact for M3 and M4 students during their clinical years.

2. * * To work closely with the administration and faculty to ensure that a quality curriculum is delivered to medical students. In doing so the RES helps ensure that delivery of the clinical curriculum adheres to the broad Educational Program Objectives and the specific learning objectives developed by the Assistant Chair of each core clinical discipline.

3. * * To generate, coordinate, and manage all schedules for both the M3 and M4 students through a developmental, student specific process. This includes rotations within our Geisinger system/preceptor sites and our Community- Based health systems/preceptor sites.

4. * * To liaise between the Offices of Curriculum Development and Assessment and Student Affairs in addressing the needs of students as requested by students or faculty.

5. * * To assist identified M3 and M4 students in development of learning plans and time management schedules and provide monitoring support throughout the academic year.

6. * * To monitor, provide academic support and intervention for M3 and M4 students as they progress through curriculum competencies in the clinical years. This includes but is not limited to performance on clerkship rotations and assignments, didactic sessions and activities, logging, professionalism and overall adherence to graduation requirements.

7. * * To coordinate the assignment and progress monitoring should a student be identified in need of remediation in collaboration with Director of Academic Success and Regional Teams.

8. * * To facilitate the formal transition of students from the M2 to M3, then M3 to M4 academic years in coordination with Center for Learning Excellent, Regional Teams and others.

9. * * To collaborate with the Regional Assistant Dean to provide assistance and support to students as they develop residency and career plans.

10. * ** * To ensure curriculum is effectively delivered by helping prepare and/or disseminate didactic material, readings, conferences, podcasts, webinars, and other curricular materials which are posted on the portal (i.e. Canvas).

11. * ** * To assist with faculty and clinical site retention and recruitment through developmental onboarding and to ensure students have appropriate rotation preparation and orientation for each assigned faculty or clinical site.

  1. To serve as the Title IX Resource Advisor for the region after successful completion of Title IX Resource Advisor Training.

13. * ** * To perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Education Specialist and the Director of Clinical Education Administration.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Support or Education is required. Related fields will be considered with a minimum of three years relevant full-time (K-12 or Higher Education) education experience in lieu of degrees listed above.

A minimum of one-year experience is required; three years’ experience (including teaching and academic coaching) within Divisions of Academic or Student Affairs at a post-secondary institution preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed in an office environment. Position may involve driving as required based on organizational structure.
