CVS Health Senior Statistical Analyst - Capacity Planning in Buffalo Grove, Illinois
The Performance Analytics team provides capacity planning and performance engineering advice to application teams, developers, architects, and senior IT leadership for critical, high-volume, customer facing enterprise applications.
The incumbent will be responsible for working with the rest of the forecasting and capacity modeling team as we catalog, document, and interactively improve our forecasting, capacity models, and analytics.
Core job responsibilities include:
Test strategy development
Performance / Capacity Non-Functional Requirements (NFR) elicitation and documentation
Performance and Capacity assessments of systems and architectures
Statistical model development, maintenance, and sensitivity analysis
Forecasting of future performance, load, and scalability for select systems and platforms
The successful candidate shall:
Promote strong practice and techniques to application teams, such as helping them to articulate performance objectives, document performance and capacity risks, develop effective performance NFRs, and provide detailed performance test objectives for these projects.
Drive best practice controls for consistency and accuracy, across and within the Capacity Planning / Performance Analytics team.
Apply statistical and data visualization analysis of performance metrics data to provide insights, clarity, and trend indications for relevant attributes of performance and scalability of the applications and services studied.
Define performance and scalability principles, practices and patterns to enable development teams to engineer for performance and system quality.
Analyze actual and predicted performance metrics to obtain quantitative, rational basis for conclusions through the application of logic and scientific or economic disciplines and techniques.
Devise modeling and measuring techniques; utilize mathematics, statistical methods, engineering methods, operations research techniques (linear programming, game theory, probability theory, symbolic language, etc.) and other principles and laws of scientific and economic disciplines.
Create, enhance, and exploit performance models to generate forecasts of future expected performance, load, and scalability. Modeled aspects may include scenarios, workloads, budgets and metrics.
Coach team members on statistical modeling best practice.
Help to drive innovation across the team.
Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide solutions which are innovative and ingenious.
Work without need for supervision and structure.
Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives or methods to deliver assignments.
Recognize that erroneous decisions or recommendation can result in failure of key systems to meet customer demand and result in significant loss of revenue and market share, potentially causing the company to violate government-mandated health services delivery objectives.
Interact with senior IT executives and application managers on significant technical matters, often requiring coordination between organizations.
3+ years of experience in a professional, modeling/ analysis-oriented role, preferably including forecasting, regression analysis, time-series, etc.
2+ years experience with Linear-Regression / Time-Series / Statistical Modeling; professional or academic
2+ Experience with descriptive and inferential statistics and data analytics theory, practice, and tools.
Familiarity with performance engineering, practice, or testing
Strong interpersonal communication skills discussing data analysis, data visualization, planning, and risk mitigation
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical situations and help technical teams resolve issues
Ability to manage executive communications for detailed, technical topics
Ability to work independently, when necessary, to complete assignments.
Verifiable Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required. Degree in Mathematics / Statistics / Applied Economics / Operations Research / Advanced Analytics, or other relevant field strongly preferred.
