The Brookdale Hospital & Medical Center PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE in Brooklyn, New York
Performs a variety of billing and insurance verification duties. Responsible for compiling amounts owed to the facility by patients and third parties. Reviews and maintains records to insure accuracy. Maintains all payment records from insurance carriers.
Verification of all patient insurance coverage.
Responsible for all patient & third party billing.
Follow up on all billing in order to effectuate collection.
Identify & post all payments received through either mail or lockbox.
Preparation of reports for Accounting and Managed Care Departments.
Handle correspondence & patient inquiries.
Responding to third party audits.
Liaison between third party insurance and Medical Records Department.
All related clerical duties.
- High School Diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures in medical billing.
- Two (2) years experience in medical billing environment
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong customer service skills. Ability to communicate effectively with patients and/or co-workers
Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office products.
Type a minimum of 45 keystrokes per minute.
Knowledge of third-party insurance plans preferred.
Well-developed problem-solving skills.
Excellent written, and oral communication skills. Ability to read, write, see, and hear in English. Ability to interpret documents.
Detail oriented; data and report analysis application.
Demonstrates respect and professionalism in all interactions.
Ability to work in surroundings with degree of dust, noise, etc. without undue discomfort.
Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and bending.
May include some repetitive motions.

Ability to sit for long periods of time at desk to perform job functions
Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but potential for exposure. Incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or fist aid.
