Why Is This Role Critical?
The Senior Business Analyst is responsible for engaging with business subject matter experts and process owners (both internal and external) to understand business needs to define requirements for assigned projects. This role will document, analyze, and validate business requirements for enterprise projects through individual and group interactions. Develops consistent, complete, correct, and operationally defined functional and non-functional requirements that are used by project managers, architects, developers and testers to design and deliver the business solution. Works with the business, developers, and external customers to resolve inconsistencies and inadequacies in requirements. A successful Senior Business Analyst will document the future desired state of a process or project. This role works collaboratively with Project Managers and may perform project management functions for medium to high complexity projects. The Senior Business Analyst will have exceptional skills in the following: communication, documentation, presentation, time management, problem solving, relationship-building, and cross-team collaboration.
Meets with stakeholders, subject matter experts, process owners, and users to elicit and document needs, expectations, constraints and external interfaces using various methods (e.g., brainstorming, document analysis, facilitated meetings, focus groups, interface analysis, interviews, observation, prototyping, requirements workshops, reverse engineering, survey questionnaire). Asks the right questions to surface essential requirements information.
Evaluates information gathered from multiple sources, reconciles conflicts, decomposes high-level information into details, abstracts up from low-level information to a general understanding, and distinguishes user requests from the underlying true needs
Develops the business requirements by translating the needs, expectations, constraints and interfaces into a format understandable to all stakeholders
Represents requirements textually as well as via visual models and graphical form, in order to communicate the requirements effectively to the required audience
Document process workflows and modifications
Analyzes requirements to determine whether they satisfy the objectives of higher level requirements
Evaluates requirements against established standards to ensure that they are complete, feasible, realizable, and verifiable
Develops relationships with customers and other relevant parties to facilitate the flow of information related to important processes, procedures and other relevant business/customer needs
Responsible for facilitating clear understanding of all customer/business processes and procedures, goals/objectives and drivers in order to effectively define business solutions
Collaborate on test plan and test case definition based on documented requirements
Identify process improvements, collaborate with stakeholders on resolutions, and implement solutions
Completes activities according to best practices, standard operating procedures, and team member guidance, consistently meeting quality standards and striving to add value in each activity
Acts as a knowledge source for developers and testers
Perform in a consultative role to provide options for business owners to respond to major changes and risks
Assure deliverables are reviewed and quality is achieved as planned
Demonstrate proficiency in tactfully communicating with all levels of customer leadership
Be a trusted advisor to Project Managers on status, risks, and mitigations
Demonstrate Business Analyst excellence and mentor other Business Analysts
Travel as business needs require
Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, or related degree with 5+ years Business Analyst experience
Implementations and/or other customer-facing projects experience a plus
Requires ability to function within ambiguity and help bring clarity and/or resolution to complex situations and issues.
Strong attention to detail
Requires exceptional oral and written communication skills and professional writing, including articulating ideas and information; possesses ability to collaborate effectively with personnel at all levels
Strong computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio
Excellent interpersonal skills in working with colleagues, other departments, and customers
Ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment and remain appropriately detail-oriented
Demonstrated customer service and organizational skills
Independent thinker and ability to work autonomously
