Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado is seeking an Electrical Assembler to join our team. In this role, you will handle the Electrical Assembly of PWBA and/or Harnesses.

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) began in 1948, a decade before NASA. We are the world’s only research institute to have sent instruments to all eight planets and Pluto.

LASP combines all aspects of space exploration through our expertise in science, engineering, mission operations, and scientific data analysis. As part of CU, LASP also works to educate and train the next generation of space scientists, engineers and mission operators by integrating undergraduate and graduate students into working teams. Our students take their unrivaled experiences with them into government or industry, or remain in academia to continue the cycle of exploration.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Produce high-quality electrical flight products (PCBA, cables and harnesses, test fixtures etc.).

  • Have outstanding attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards of work quality with minimum oversight.

  • Detailed understanding of proper soldering techniques for work on PWBA assemblies.

  • Ability to work on custom cabling and wire harnesses.

  • Ability to work from detailed schematics, wire lists, bill of materials, engineering drawings and documentation etc.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $ 50,000.00, commensurate with experience. The starting salary will be determined by the qualifications of the selected applicant balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field.

  • A combination of an Associate’s or technical degree plus years of experience can substitute for a Bachelor's degree.

  • At least three or more years of hand electrical assembly experience.

  • Previous experience in the assembly of electrical assemblies including hand‐built PCBA and harnesses.

  • Experience with harnesses with multiple style connectors for application in vacuum and space‐flight environments.

What You Will Need

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.

  • Outstanding attention to detail.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Previous or current certification to NASA STD’s 8739.4 IPC-620 for cable harnessing and crimping.

  • Previous or current certification to J-STD-001 or 8739.3 for PWBA assembly work.

  • Experience with Lead Forming of dual and quad pack parts.
