The mission of the Center for Cancer Genomics (CCG) is to facilitate the development and implementation of innovative methods and emerging sequencing technologies that directly aid precision cancer medicine efforts.
CCG leverages a multitude of existing and new capabilities for comprehensive genomic characterization, computational analysis, and technology development. It brings together DFCI and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) resources to pioneer new approaches for patient-derived specimens, with the goal of facilitating the generation and clinical interpretation of tumor molecular data from clinical studies. CCG integrates and coordinates various research and clinical disciplines with the ultimate goal of creating a leading cancer precision medicine research enterprise.
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Technician that will work under the supervision of CCG Senior Scientists. The technician will assist in the development and implementation of methods to apply new technologies and approaches that augment cancer precision medicine and cancer genomics. Cutting-edge technologies will be used for cancer mutation discovery and tumor profiling using a variety of clinical samples that include single-cells from fresh specimens, liquid biopsies, FFPE samples, and cancer cell-lines.
The position involves performing molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA isolation and quantification, manual and automated library preparation, PCR, target enrichment, high-throughput massively parallel (Illumina) sequencing, tissue culture, and tumor samples dissociation for single-cell analysis.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, have the ability to multitask while working collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced and exciting environment. Critical to success will be excellent communication and analytical skills coupled with self-motivation and independent initiative.
Duties include independently operating and maintaining equipment, analyzing data, completing projects in a timely fashion, providing progress updates at weekly meetings.
Experience in molecular biology, biotechnology or biochemistry. The candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible, flexible, and possess excellent organizational and analytical skills. Computational experience is welcome.
B.A. or M.A./M.Sc. or equivalent degree in life sciences.
Experience in a variety of lab techniques; cancer research is a plus.
Hands-on research experience (>1 year) with excellent technical skills.
Flexibility in working hours.
Skills and experience that are advantageous but not required:
Experience with microfluidic systems and in processing patient-derived samples.
Working knowledge of automated liquid handlers.
Familiarity with Linux Bash, R, or Python programming.
Experience with long-read sequencing.
Full time, 40 hours per week
