Idaho Division of Human Resources Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in Blackfoot, Idaho

The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is recruiting for Clinical Specialists (Physician Assistantor Nurse Practitioner). Current openings are located at State Hospital North (Orofino). These positions cover patient care duties, administrative, and documentation duties.

  • Performs preliminary screening and diagnosis of medical conditions including comprehensive examination of mental health patients
  • Conducts physical examination and orders appropriate laboratory tests and x-rays; orders treatment and consultation as determined by the physician
  • Consults with specialists concerning specific medical problems of patients
  • Prescribes psychotropic medications and orders drugs for specific therapy regimens
  • Evaluates psychosocial behavior patterns of patients
  • Performs secondary screening and diagnosis of psychiatric conditions
  • Performs on-going evaluation of severe and persistent mentally ill
  • Advises physician of psychiatric history, treatment, prescriptions, and medical regimens
  • Provides face-to-face and phone intervention, evaluation, treatment, and referral for psychiatric emergencies
  • Makes referrals to other mental health services and/or to other support services in the community

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for registration as Physician Assistant with the Board of Medicine or Nurse Practitioner with the Board of Nursing

State Hospital North, Orofino: SHN is a 55-bed adult psychiatric hospital located in North Central Idaho. Our hospital employs approximately 137 full- and part-time staff. The Division of Behavioral Health provides mental health services through Regional Mental Health Centers located in each of the seven geographical region of the state. Each Center provides mental health services through a system of care that is both community-based and consumer-guided.
