We are currently seeking a Scientist (In Vivo Gene Therapy Research) to work onsite with the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Culture and genetically engineer primary and immortalized human cells.

  • Perform CRISPER/Ca9 deletion of genes in neurospheres.

  • Quantify different metabolites using kits.

  • Perform immunohistochemistry.

  • Isolate metabolites, DNA, RNA, and protein.

  • Perform qPCR and immunoblot analyses.

  • Perform BCA analysis for protein quantification.

  • Perform flow and other microcopy-based analyses for cell cycle, apoptosis, cell death and DNA damage.

  • Perform cell proliferation-based assays.

  • Design and clone new retroviral and lentiviral vectors.

  • Contribute to mouse-colony care, including genotyping, breeding, oral gavage of drugs, and treatments.

  • Collect data in laboratory notebooks and databases as well as analyze and interpret data.

  • Prepare reports and summaries based on results and findings.

  • Attend laboratory meetings; presenting findings and results to staff.

  • Maintain laboratory equipment and care contracts.

  • Work with staff on the procurement of lab supplies and maintaining common cell lines.

  • Make reagents of common use for the laboratory.

  • Work with staff on the preparation of NCI ACUC amendments and renewal forms.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Ph.D. degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry or a scientific field. Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D. Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.

  • Minimum of one (1) years of related experience.

  • In-depth understanding of scientific research, organizational structure and laboratory resources.

  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.

  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
