CACI International CNC Machinist in Bethesda, Maryland
CACI is seeking a CNC Machinist to provide technical support for NSWCCD Code 1026 (Model Fabrication Branch) assisting in the fabrication of prototype models required for naval marine testing. This employee will serve as the subject matter expert on machine programming and CNC parts fabrication, and will advise shop management, supervisors, and planners during the planning and costing phase on the difficult, complexity and risks that may arise in fabrication of potentially complex parts.
What You’ll Get to Do:
Program and operate precision tools, machinery and equipment, particularly 2, 3, 4, and 5-Axis controllers and CNC mills.
Develop innovative code to achieve high tolerance finished components designed with minimal ability to support the machining forces typically applied.
Implement new innovative practices to promote part accuracy and proficiency.
Provide schedule input to include projections of time required to develop the code, review and debug the code, produce the test samples or mockups required to proof out the code and time the required to properly document the final code.
Analyze and diagnose problems which may arise in the fabrication process. Utilize experience base to determine root cause of fabrication issues and develop methods and processes to ensure that similar issues are reduce or eliminate in future tasks.
Interface with Project Engineers to determine project requirements, review documentation and special needs.
Design specialized tooling fixtures to be used to support the production of complex machined components
Determine proper tool types, feed rates and tool speeds for a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials, composite materials, reinforced and non-reinforced plastics, and rubber.
Apply knowledge of engineering disciplines in structural design, weld design materials applications, ship propulsion systems, hull design, ship appendages, material specimens and prototype design
Through interaction with the metrology group compile, analyze, and prepare reports required for detailed test models.
Apply knowledge of manufacturing trades including industrial and commercial manufacturing processes to contribute to the engineering design and development function.
Collect and analyze data in test samples and fabrication mockups and apply the data collected to the fabrication of future high cost components and models.
Design, build and research specialized tooling and tooling fixtures to be used to support the production of complex machined components. Fixtures will be required to enable the machining process, ensure component is properly aligned to the cutting head, and table to produce high quality tightly tolerance parts.
Work with project engineers to determine alternatives of conflicting requirements; prepare/review detail drawings by others for fabrication of item to determine if they meet production requirements. Check for proper tolerances, fits, finishes, clearances, materials and dimensions.
Determine the most appropriate avenues to employ accomplish tasks, deciding on methods to be used to complete all phases of an assignment. Utilize experience and knowledge of the hydrodynamic, structural and signature tests to determine critical aspects of the components to be fabricated.
Utilizes and abides by ISO requirements and safety procedures
You’ll Bring These Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED
CNC Machinist Journeyman Certification, minimum 5 years professional machinist experience
Active DoD Secret Clearance (preferred) or ability to gain a DoD Secret Clearance
Experienced with CNC machining of metals and other materials
Experienced with design process and mechanical assembly. Must be able to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
Effective verbal and written communication in English
Basic MS Windows skills
Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane; Ability to lift 50 lbs. when required; While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms; Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
