General summary/purpose:

The Biostatistician will perform statistical analyses for preliminary analysis, publications, presentations & grant submissions. Provide statistical consultation for PI, co-investigators & other staff. Oversee data management activities; including completion of data collection, entry, error reports, transferring, and editing.

Specific duties & responsibilities:

Design strategies, analyses, & data code books.

Attend weekly scientific meetings.

Present & disseminate information & data analyses.

Prepares analysis plans, & writes detailed specifications for analysis files.

Interprets analyses & writes statistical sections of study reports.

Performs analyses on large, complex datasets, & documents analyses using STATA, R, SAS, and SPSS.

Provides research design guidance to study investigators & consultants; as well as, assist in the development of questionnaires by making recommendations to data collection procedures & databases structures.

Provide preliminary & interim analyses of data; additional, preform statistical calculations & assists with preparation of reports, scientific abstracts & manuscripts related to projects.

Provides training, assistance, advices to students, post-docs, & research staff on data analysis, analysis technigues, the use of the analysis system & large, complex database.

Oversees & performs constructions of datasets, variables & data cleaning.

Make suggestions or provide solutions to problems related to data management & statistical analysis.

Produce tables & graphs in publication-quality form, & present results to senior investigators.

Prepate data & analyses reports regarding the status of the database & analytical activites as well as reviews reports to verify data.

Serves as a program reviewer & quality control checkpoint person for analyses (conducted by self or by others).

Coordinate data center activites involving the interaction with clinicians, statisticians, research assistants & support staff. Serves as a liaison between the Principal Investigators & data coordinating center.

Works with the Investigators in data analysis and manuscript preparation.

Provide computing & analysis support to faculty, & graduate students.

Write &execute computer programs for data management activities &data analyses.

Provide PC support or assist with software purchases. Served as the intermediate contact between faculty, staff, and IT personnel.

Participate in writing statictical plans for grants & of papers for publication.

Performs multiple tasks & other functions outside the scope of this position.

Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

Master's Degree in Biostatistics, Epidemiology or related quamtitative field. One year of experience.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of R, STATA, Access, Excel, MSWord

Experience in statistical analysis, database management & data analysis including longitudinal analysis.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications:


Any specific physical requirements for the job:

  • Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard

  • Handling by seizing, holding, grasping, turning or otherwise working with the hand or hands, but without finger dexterity

  • Ability to move about and sit and stand for extended periods of time

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
