Basic Function

Business & Entrepreneurship Center is seeking a professional expert who will be responsible for implementing and coordinating business services and youth entrepreneurship programs for the Business & Entrepreneurship Center (Kern BEC)

Education and Experience

Any combination of relevant training, education and experience equivalent to:

Bachelors degree or an Associate of Arts degree and two years of experience involving public contact, coordination or community relations and accounting/budgeting responsibilities.


valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s license with a driving record that meets minimum standards established by the Kern Community College District’s insurance carrier.

Note: Degrees and credits must be from accredited institutions (Title V Section 53406). Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an evaluation service.

Knowledge and Abilities

Good knowledge of:

  • business services program models designed to meet the needs of the entrepreneurial community;

  • program tracking and monitoring systems;

  • oral and written communication techniques;

  • organizational procedures; accounting and budgeting procedures;

  • record systems;

  • word processing, databases and spreadsheets. Ability to:

  • plan and organize business training programs effectively;

  • prepare a program budget;

  • maintain effective liaison with administrative personnel, faculty, tenants, presenters, counselors, students and the entrepreneurial community;

  • compile information and data for reports using Microsoft Office suite of tools;

  • develop promotional materials (preferred knowledge of Illustrator or Photoshop);

  • maintain accurate schedules and records using Microsoft Office and other software;

  • work independently and responsibly;

  • travel. Less than 20% travel is required to support Kern BEC sponsored seminars and workshops; and to assist with expansion of entrepreneurship certificates and curriculum across community college campuses. Responsibilities:

  • Assists Director with planning, budgeting, coordinating, and directing a comprehensive business/entrepreneurship program, including gratis and fee-based seminars, workshops, technical training, business consulting, and entrepreneurship certificates and curriculum

  • Assists Director with coordination and outreach with regional colleges and central region consortium

  • Oversees schedule development selection based on evaluations, survey, financial results and current industry trends

  • Directs and coordinates production, printing and distribution of marketing materials

  • Schedules and budgets for on and off campus facilities usage

  • Directs the registration and collection of fees

  • Assists in the development of marketing collateral, press releases and other materials

  • Invites and coordinates interviews and otherwise screen program proposals leading to negotiations and agreements

  • Maintains dialogue with presenters and the entrepreneurial community regarding program offerings, both in terms of expansion or deletion

  • Prepares reports about marketing strategies, participation profiles, and event summaries

  • Assists with the preparation and maintenance of all agreements and other contracts with clients, presenters, business consultants, etc.

  • Develops data collection instruments through the use of specializes software programs

  • Provides feedback to the Director and presenters with regard to enrollment and attendee evaluations

  • Provide input for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports about program and opportunities

  • Monitor the use of facilities, equipment and supplies

  • Maintains a high public relations and community relations profile that promotes the program
