The laboratory of Dr. Mitchell J Cohen, (Professor Department of Surgery-Division of GI, Trauma and Endocrine Surgery – Anschutz Medical Campus Aurora Colorado, Director of Surgery , Denver Health Medical Center Denver, Colorado), invites application for a full time Professional Research Assistant**to investigates molecular mechanisms of Trauma induced coagulopathy using several biochemical, immunological and cell biological techniques.
The PRA will report directly to the principal Investigator and will be responsible for planning and executing experiments under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Senior Research Staff. The individual hired for this position will be expected to present data, maintain knowledge of current scientific literature in the field, and perform administrative duties including laboratory purchasing.
The Principal Investigator will serve as the primary supervisor. Additionally, immediate supervision, experimental guidance and on the on the job training in required skills will be provided to the incumbent in this position by senior research staff members through attendance and participation at weekly Trauma Research lab meetings at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Research Center 2 location.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator and, the duties and responsibilities of this position will include:
Maintain cell cultures for in-vitro biochemical analysis and cell based experiments.
Perform nucleic acid isolation and quantification, cDNA preparation and qPCR assays, Protein quantification and western blots
Perform chemokine and cytokine ELISAs. Assist senior lab staff with data analysis and statistics.
Assist other PRA’s with processing blood samples.
Cross train with other PRA’s and learn to perform viscoelastic coagulation testing (TEG, ROTEM etc.)
Will help research residents in execution of wet bench experiments and data analysis
Perform other research related duties as delegated by the PI or Senior Research Staff.* *

A Bachelor’s Degree in biological sciences or related field.
Communicate results verbally and in written form.
Familiar with word processing and Photoshop programs.
Possess attention to detail and have excellent interpersonal skills, as he/she will be required to interact with other collaborating laboratory personnel.
Particularly familiar with cell culture, Western blotting, ELISA assays and data presentation.
Experience with Photoshop, Prizm
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
