_Nature of Work:_* *This is a full-time (40 hours per week) Professional Research Assistant (PRA) position at the Colorado Center for Transplantation Care, Research and Education (CCTCARE) in the Department of Surgery, University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center (AMC), Aurora, Colorado.The University of Colorado is committed to recruiting and supporting a diverse student body, faculty and administrative staff. The employee will work in the CCTCARE laboratory with Dr. Ronald G. Gill’s lab personnel. He/she will interact principally with the senior research associate. The position is not eligible for tenure. An employee in this position can be terminated at any time without notice and severance pay may not be provided. _Professional Field:_ Basic Research
_Supervision Received:_This position reports to the hiring authority Ronald G. Gill, Ph.D. and Marilyne Coulombe, Ph.D. Supervision will include training and oversight for the position’s responsibilities.
_Duties and Responsibilities:_ This is a position requiring interest in medical research, the ability to be self-directed and detail-oriented, with strong communication and interpersonal skills. This position entails the execution of/in vivo/and/in vitro/experiments as they relate to rodent pancreatic islet transplantation. Duties and responsibilities include:
Breeding, record keeping and cellular/molecular phenotyping of several genetically manipulated mouse strains.
Performing general lab duties such as tissue culture, PCR, reagent preparation and equipment maintenance.
Execution of/in vitro/immunological techniques such as flow cytometry, mixed lymphocyte cultures, cytotoxicity assays and ELISA.
Renal subcapsular transplantation of islets into diabetic mice, murine skin transplantation and treatment of recipient mice with various therapeutic reagents.
Post-transplant assessment of graft function and documenting results.
The isolation of pancreatic islets of Langerhans from mice
Providing assistance to other lab personnel when necessary
*Working Conditions:* This position works Monday-Friday and will be located at the Barbara Davis Center Building on the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Center campus in Aurora, CO.
Minimum of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in biological sciences.
Accurate record keeping, good organizational and quantitative skills.
Relevant research laboratory experience.
Experience with animal handling, flow cytometry, ELISA and PCR is preferred.
Proficient computer skills and experience with various software programs in Microsoft Office are necessary. Statistical software experience/proficiency a plus.
An ability to work both independently and as a member of a research team.
Motivated, reliable and willing to be supervised and taught new research techniques.
Master’s degree or course work in biological sciences is a plus.
