Phia Principal System Administrator-Linux in Arlington, Virginia

OVERVIEW: Would you like to work with a highly technical team, supporting the front line of security protecting the federal and civilian government in the pursuit of national cybersecurity? phia is hiring a skilled Linux System Administrator. DUTIES:

You will:

  • Apply current technologies to the design, development, evaluation and integration of computer information systems and networks to maintain system security.

  • Work with commercial computer product vendors in the design and evaluation of state-of-the-art secure COTS applications, operating systems, networks and database products and technology.

  • Provides security engineering and integration services to internal customers.

  • Involved in a wide range of issues including secure architectures, secure electronic data traffic, network security, information security and privacy.

  • Develop security systems for any manual or automated systems environments.

  • Responsible for ensuring the protection of company data against unauthorized disclosure, accidental or intentional loss of data, or unauthorized modification.

  • Perform configuration management using Ansible or Puppet.

  • Provide Linux-related scripting (Bash, Perl, Python, etc.).

  • Perform Apache web server configuration and management.

  • Manage, deploy and troubleshoot Java and Tomcat applications.

  • Analyze and evaluate the security of new and existing IT systems and the procedures to protect information system assets from intentional or inadvertent modification, disclosure, or destruction.

  • Analyze and evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of Information Technology and security controls that are in place.

  • Evaluate security solutions to ensure they meet security requirements for processing classified information.

  • Manage changes to system and assesses the security impact of those changes.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and instructions

  • Contribute to completion of project milestones under the specific guidance of program leadership

  • May lead System Administrator team and/or Help Desk team.

  • Provide technical execution oversight and training for lower level system administrators.

  • Define and implement policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.

  • Plan and implement software upgrades for Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-Shelf (GOTS) software to the Change Management process.

  • Plan and conduct testing using approved testing procedures for all new staged hardware/software (GFE), as well as components that have been updated, received patches, and/or have been repaired.

  • Provide advice and training to end-users.

  • Must have a current Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (SSBI within the last five years) and be able to obtain DHS program suitability prior to starting employment.

Requirements

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Eight (8) or more years of system administration experience required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Computer Systems Engineering or a related discipline is required.

  • A Master’s degree in a related discipline may substitute for two (2) years of experience. A PhD may substitute for four (4) years of experience.

  • DoD 8570.1-M Compliance at IAT Level I certification required.

  • Must have a current TS Clearance with SCI Eligibility (SSBI within the last 5 years).

  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Required.

  • Knowledge and understanding of operating systems, networks and services.

  • Experience and/or familiarity with the following network protection devices: Firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS), log analysis, malware analysis, network traffic flow and packet analysis.

  • Knowledge of Red Hat version 6 or 7(rhel6/rhel7) with the ability to engineer, install, administer and maintain.

  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Good communication skills including preparing and presenting results, findings and alternatives and influencing management decision making based on the best available data.

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of best practices, trends related to information security.

  • Desired Knowledge and experience with any of the following: Apache/TomCat/NGINX, Kerberos/LDAP, SSL, IDM/Free IPA, Docker, Open Nebula, Ambari, Whois, Sourcefire, Puppet, Satellite Server, Nagios.

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment as needed.

  • Experience with multi-site infrastructure deployments.
