SafeHaven of Tarrant County Client Advocate (Wednesday-Saturday 3pm-1am) in Arlington, Texas
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Assists residents of the Emergency Shelter and answers Hotline for shelter and/or information.
Answers Crisis Hotline, assesses caller's needs, determines eligibility for shelter admission, or makes appropriate referral.
Provides or arranges emergency transportation for incoming clients.
Provides or arranges transportation allowing clients access to community services.
Completes intake procedures for each client, arranges for immediate needs of family.
Provides crisis intervention counseling for shelter residents.
Completes exit procedures for each client.
Maintain confidentiality of all communication regarding clients, agency and staff.
Screens people coming to agency entrances to determine eligibility for entering shelter.
Manages shelter operations to include: enforcing shelter rules, policies and procedures, ensuring a calm, supportive atmosphere, maintaining the security of the shelter, distributing incoming client mail, supporting client participation in group meetings.
Documents appropriate information in client files and communication log in a timely manner. Completes all appropriate forms maintained in resident files.
Conducts daily House Meeting/Chore Assignments, "Orientation" groups for new residents, and educational/support groups when they fall during shift.
Must be able to work varied shifts including day shift, evening shift and overnight shift as assigned by supervisor.
Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and be able to drive during day time and night time hours.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
In accordance with the team philosophy of the agency, may routinely be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed above.
Must act in accordance with the agency's mission statement and goals.
There are no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED. Knowledge of crisis intervention, social work theory and ethics. Experience in and knowledge of family violence theory preferred. 1-2 years experience working in a social service environment preferred.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients. Ability to communicate in a helpful and courteous manner. Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current Texas Driver's License required. Must have current proof of automobile liability insurance.
