Job Description

As the Vice President, Product Line Leader, you will report to the SVP, Product Manufacturing and have accountability and ownership for establishing long term vision, strategy and direction of Life insurance product within Thrivent. You will deliver against identified engagement, growth and productivity initiatives within the product line to ensure Thrivent’s products fulfill our mission of helping Christians be wise with money. In addition, you are responsible for driving an integrated product strategy in collaboration with other Product Line Leaders, as well as development, end-to-end administration and service that is aligned with our product distribution channels.

Location: Corporate Home Office – Minneapolis, MN or Appleton, WI

Primary Responsibilities

  • Set the mission and vision of the product brand strategy with distribution channel leaders; incorporating the voice of the customer and the different distribution channels to create and deliver a low-cost, high-value product while maintaining current in-force products/contracts.

  • Lead strategic agility, direction and oversight of the following within the Life Insurance product line:

  • Product Domain Management

  • New Product Strategy

  • In-force product contract maintenance and management that includes the Life Insurance product scope (Term, Whole, Universal, Variable Universal Life Insurance)

  • Regulatory Compliance

  • Market Research

  • Product Development & Management

  • Actuary oversight and partnership with Actuary center of excellence to support product strategy

  • New Business processing

  • Oversight of current new business processing function within the Life Insurance product line

  • Key stakeholder in technological decisions to support product strategy

  • Underwriting

  • Underwriting oversight and partnership with Underwriting center of excellence to support product strategy

  • Claims Administration

  • Key decision owner related to Life Insurance products with high collaboration with Underwriting and Legal partners

  • In-Force Contract Servicing related to:

  • Money In/Money Out Processing

  • Policy/Contract Servicing

  • Product Interaction Centers

  • Accountable to lead, establish and deliver a business model that supports low-cost, high-value products and a simple experience that is distribution agnostic through:

  • the standardization of key operational processes

  • influencing technology capabilities necessary to delivery on this business model

  • process improvement methodologies that support our customer experience,

  • consistently collaborating with other leaders across the enterprise

  • setting and achieving key performance indicators such as 1) Product Line Revenue; 2.) Net operating income; 3) Sales and 4) Client Retention.

  • Aligns teams with strategic direction of the organization, executing plans to deliver optimal operational effectiveness and customer satisfaction.

  • Uses internal and external data including market trends to create dedicated products to support our mission.

  • Establish a cultural mindset of continuous improvement to include the creation of an important measurement framework that promotes individual accountability, balances cost, quality, and timeliness, and drives employee engagement and innovation.

  • Identify and implement opportunities for improvement that lead to a better member experience.

  • Lead a collaborative culture of customer intimacy within the service teams to unify the service experience and drive towards a flawless, visible and accountable experience.

  • Collaborate with division leadership to ensure enterprise customer service philosophy and process strategies are defined, aligned and communicated.

  • Build, develop and effectively lead a versatile, all-star team that are agile and ready, able and willing to flex skills and expertise based on ever- changing business need.

  • Actively works with Human Resources and cross-functional partners to develop a flexible/responsive strategic workforce plan and attracts the talent needed to achieve business objectives and core business functions running efficiently.

  • Role model mastery level change leader. Creates a positive culture and team dynamics by recognizing the exponential value that different perspectives and cultures bring to Thrivent. Demonstrates a high level of modeling and coaching of all the Thrivent Leadership Competencies.

  • Consistent with our Performance Management process, meets with the team to discuss performance, career aspiration, development, and to provide feedback/coaching.

  • Engage with community boards and organizations to continue building Thrivent’s presence in the community.

Required Job Qualifications

  • Outstanding leader with a minimum of 10 to 15 years of leadership experience; preferably leading and managing a product line in the Insurance/Financial Services Industry.

  • Significant experience in Financial Services Industry and/or Fraternal Benefit Societies, or expertise in the insurance industry.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or directly related discipline.

  • FINRA Series 6 & 26 required or obtained within 90 days of hire/transfer.

  • Travel required.

  • Experience in budget planning and financial management. Excellent analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, and execution skills.

  • Experience in multi-channel distribution within the financial services/insurance industry.

  • Track record of service on Boards and volunteer activities.
