Sutter Health Patient Access Representative Per Diem Variable Shift in Antioch, California


The Patient Access Representative greets, interviews and registers incoming patients to the hospital in a prompt, professional, courteous and confidential manner. Serves as the face to face point of contact for the patient at the facility. Obtains all necessary information to register and financially clear patients for service delivery. Enhances the patient experience throughout all patient interactions by serving as the customer service point of contact at the point of service by demonstrating knowledge of Sutter's Health system and service offerings. Responsible for functioning as the hospital operator using a multiline telephone system and responsible for all overhead paging and calling of accurate and timely codes. Responsible for supporting the success of a high-performing shared services organization by helping to champion and drive the long-term MFSS vision. Helps foster an environment in which continuous improvement in business processes and services is welcomed and recognized. Participates in programs and in using tools in support of building a high performance culture via the standard MFSS responsibilities (e.g. performance measurement, people development, customer relationship management, etc.).



High school diploma or equivalent required.


  • Previous experience in a hospital or related setting is required, with multi-line telephone system experience preferred

  • Medical terminology desired

  • Computer experience from a user's perspective is highly desired

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal and private insurance payors, collecting payments, and posting of receipts

  • Knowledge of basic telephone etiquette

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor in an atmosphere of changing priorities

  • Must have accurate typing skills of 35 wpm with basic experience working with main frame computers, calculators, copiers, and multi-line telephone systems
