Position Summary:Alaska Sea Grant seeks a part-time, student editorial assistant to join our communications team in Anchorage. We are looking for someone who is strong in writing and editing, fluent in social media, skilled in video production, and passionate about Alaska’s coastal ecosystems, economies and communities. Demonstrated skill in producing written and/or multimedia content is required.

Knowledge, skills and experience required:

Enrolled in degree program in journalism or communications

Ability to translate complex, scientific material into language easily comprehensible to diverse audiences

Excellent writing, verbal, interpersonal, organizational and communications skills

Social media savvy

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress or similar web platforms, Microsoft Office Suite required.

Proficiency in video editing and photography a plus.

Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse staff across levels.

Special Conditions of Employment:

This is a part-time position up to 20 hours/week while school is in session, additional hours may be available during summer/winter breaks.*Hourly rate is $10.50/hour.

NOTICE: Students must maintain enrollment and regular attendance for a minimum of at least 6 undergraduate credit hours or 6 graduate credit hours to be exempt from FICA (Social Security and Medicare) tax. A credit hour load below the minimum required for full-time student status will require the withholding of FICA tax (non-resident aliens on an appropriate visa who meet student employment criteria will continue to be exempt from FICA regardless of credit hour load). While in a student position, a student cannot hold any other type of simultaneous employment with the university.

Applicant should be enrolled as a student in a minimum of 6 credits with a minimum GPA of 2.0, or a newly enrolled student.
