What you'll do:This position serves on the custodial team in the Office of Support Services within the Iowa DOT Ames complex. This team is responsible for building cleanliness; sweeping, vacuuming and cleaning carpets, mopping and buffing tile floors, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash receptacles, and changing light bulbs. The team is also responsible for clearing snow away from door entrances. The ideal custodian candidate should have knowledge on how to complete common custodial task, types of supplies used associated with a task, and how to use custodial equipment. Also, be physically fit in-order-to carry and push equipment, and lift garbage bags which could weigh up to 60 pounds. Assist in DOT Mail Center when required.You will also be responsible for:
Knowledge of equipment, cleaning supplies, and safe operation of them.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.
Safely able to climb, kneel, crouch, crawl, stoop and twist and perform duties using appropriate tools and equipment within safety standards.
Safely driving vehicles and walking over uneven ground.
Lifting/lowering garbage bags weighing up to 60 pounds.
Using an iPad and 2-way Radio for communications, as well as operate computers to access programs/applications
Displaying high standards of ethical conduct. Refraining from dishonest behavior.
Displaying a high level of initiative, effort, attention to detail, and commitment by completing assignments efficiently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from high school or HSED (GED).2) A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of full-time experience in commercial building maintenance or housekeeping equals one year of education (maximum of four years).
