Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Physician - Gastroenterologist in Amarillo, Texas


Education and length of practice will be considered by a Compensation Panel in determining the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized for highly qualified applicants If the incentive is approved, it comes with a 2-year service agreement & is not paid out until the incumbent is employed with the facility. This position is approved for the Education Debt Reduction Program. Please refer to "Duties Section below" for more information.


This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program within VHA. If selected for this position you must meet specific individual eligibility criteria in accordance with VHA policy 1021 and apply for EDRP within four (4) months of appointment. Final award amount and program start date is determined after review of a complete EDRP application and supporting documentation by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services office. If selected for this position, please contact the facility EDRP Coordinator. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Knowledge in the digestive system, including any possible disease and the proper treatment for each one. Diagnosis a variety of conditions that can affect the digestive system and is able to recommend treatment. Ensure the safety of patients in performing procedures. Ability to effectively treat and provide medical advice to guarantee optimum outcomes. Peer review committee as needed. Coordinate the patient care by effective communication with PCP, Inpatient, ED and outside services. Other duties as assigned by Chief of Medicine. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or as agreed upon with the possibility of extended hours/weekends and on-call duties.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 12/31/2020.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Physical requirements outlined below. Preferred Experience: Gastroenterologist has full and further knowledge of the digestive system, including any possible diseases and the proper treatment for each one. Gastroenterologists can diagnosis a variety of conditions that can affect the digestive system and is able to recommend treatment for those conditions. Make accurate diagnoses. Ensure safety of patients in performing procedures. Able to effectively treat and provide medical advice to guarantee optimum outcomes. Be able to present diagnosis, treatment and results to patients and families in a professional way. Coordinate with other medical health professionals that are involved in the patient's care. Physical Requirements: Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; moderate carrying 15-44 pounds straight pulling (1 hour); pushing (1 hour); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (3 hours); standing (3 hours); kneeling (1 hour); repeated bending (1 hour); Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; and hearing (aid permitted)
