SHRM Senior Engineer, Systems in Alexandria, Virginia
The Technology Infrastructure department is responsible for the ongoing information technology operations of SHRM and its affiliates. This includes the design, implementation, and ongoing support of all hardware and software infrastructure (both desktop and server), networking (wired and wireless), telephony (VoIP and cellular), applications (on premise and hosted), remote access, security, and budget creation and maintenance for all of SHRM technology initiatives.
The Senior Systems Engineer works as a member of the Integrations team, working collaboratively with the software engineers and greater technology team to design and maintain the systems that power SHRM’s integrated applications. The engineer supports efforts to automate and streamline our operations and processes, and builds and maintain tools for development, deployment, monitoring and ongoing operations. The engineer must uphold systems security and configuration management standards, while maintaining high availability for SHRM’s cloud-based and on-premise application infrastructure.
Work in an Integrations agile team, seamlessly collaborating with development, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
Build, configure and maintain cloud-based application servers, and operationally support legacy Linux-based systems.
As part of the Integrations team, execute SHRM’s cloud migration strategy.
Design, implement, and support code deployment methods.
Utilize the latest industry tools and methods for automation, configuration management & change management, infrastructure provisioning.
Build, configure and maintain docker containers.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve complex application integration issues in SHRM’s development, staging, and production environments.
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or Information Systems, or equivalent combination of technical training and work experience
5 years of experience in a Systems Engineering role, building and maintaining integrated applications servers, in both cloud-based on on-premise environments
Experience in implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting cloud-based infrastructure – integrated web applications, databases, and e-commerce
Absolute commitment to Operational Excellence – building and maintaining robust, resilient application infrastructure in a dynamic, energetic operational environment
Ability to translate business requirements into technology requirements and needs
Ability to present ideas and take charge of projects
Ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with a diverse team of developers
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Familiarity with cloud infrastructure solutions from major cloud service providers including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google
Operational monitoring experience with tools such as New Relic, Jitterbit, or SolarWinds
